Quadrant Cares – Blessings in a Backpack

QuadCap team addresses local food insecurity for young students

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — November 2024

In the spirit of community and corporate responsibility, Quadrant employees packed bags of food for local elementary school students, targeting the critical issue of food insecurity. The company’s workforce joined efforts with the national nonprofit, Blessings in a Backpack, whose mission revolves around mobilizing resources and individuals to ensure food availability for school children during weekends.

Kristen Quirk, Quadrant’s Director of Investor Relations & Human Capital, steered this initiative in partnership with Jessica Schwartz, chairperson of the local Lehigh Valley Blessings in a Backpack chapter. Under Schwartz’s guidance on nutritious food selections, the Quadrant team successfully assembled over 600 meal and snack items. This endeavor ensured that more than 75 local students had adequate nourishment over a weekend.

Several Lehigh and Northampton county school districts have more than 95% of their student population qualifying for free and reduced lunch programs. These food bags, placed in students’ backpacks every Friday, serve as a vital bridge to consistent food access when school-provided meals are unavailable.

“This is only the beginning of what Quadrant hopes to scale into a much larger initiative in the future. Providing nutritious meals to students who may not have access to food over the weekend is just one way our employees can connect to deeper community issues across the Lehigh Valley.”
